What is Golden Lotus all about?

What is Golden Lotus all about?

Here is my answer:

Golden Lotus is a retelling/mashup of The Little Mermaid, The Snow Queen, The Winter Fairy and the Legend of the Frozen Lake (I know a mouthful, right?), and the Creation Story. This is also an origin story for my House of Sorah series, set hundreds of years before the events of Arabella’s Song, but can be read and enjoyed as a standalone title.

Mala is my Ariel, who is nothing like the Disney character. She has dark hair (not red). Her ties to the water are because of a promise she made when the realms were divided following a betrayal. The foam that she is changed into in the original Hans Christian Andersen version is part of Mala’s promise and the transformation she undergoes. She loses her voice, and there are icy shards involved; thanks to my Snow Queen, a truly nasty individual named Nasha.

Then there is Thorn, who has to traverse an icy land to rescue Mala and defeat the villain. Thorn has to overcome trying situations, including rejection by a parent, to become the hero. But he does it – striving forward, not giving in to difficulties.

There is a sacrifice involved, marking the end of winter, which takes its cues from my very obscure fairy tale, “The Winter Fairy and the Legend of the Frozen Lake.

There are faith elements involved, but I compare them to C.S. Lewis’s The Magician’s Nephew and Tolkien’s The Silmarillion, which are two of my favorite books and truly beautiful. This is my nod to two outstanding authors.
